It didn’t take Perry High School senior defensive end Chad West long to consider his newest offer earned after a five-star prospect
camp at the University of Cincinnati. The 6-foot-5, 227-pounder from Perry,

Ohio immediately verbally committed to the Bearcats, ending the recruiting
process just a couple weeks before the start of his senior season.
“I got an offer today after I went down there for a five-star prospect
thing,” West said. “The coaches hung out with us and showed us
around the campus some more then I met with head coach Butch Jones and then we left. He called me and I got an offer and committed.”
West chose the Bearcats over offers from Iowa State, Kansas, Syracuse and
West Virginia, among others.
“(Coach Jones) was very excited,” West said. “It’s
a really cool feeling. Everybody is just excited.”
The Bearcats have been recruiting West since the end of the 2009-10 school
year. West said he’s been in contact with the UC coaches and accepted
an invitation to attend their prospect camp.
“They wanted me to come down today and everything worked out,” he
said.
During the camp West flashed the explosiveness and technique that helped him
post 107 tackles and six sacks for the Pirates in 2009.
He said the offer and quick commitment just felt right.
”The camp went really well; I talked to all the coaches and my D-Line
coach and met some players,” he said. “Everybody just seems like
one big family. It just felt like home.”
Now that the recruiting process has ended West can focus on what he hopes
is a big senior season.
“I feel a little relieved,” he said. “I don’t have
as much pressure on me. I’m just excited to get everything started.”
OhioVarsity.com ranks West as the No. 15 defensive lineman in the Buckeye
state.
