The Columbus (Ohio) Walnut Ridge football program has churned out several Division I prospects over the past decade and class of 2017 defensive back Darrick Forrest appears to be the next one in that line. The 6-foot, 170-pound prospect was among the most impressive defensive back prospects in attendance at last week's Best of the Midwest camp. Forrest put up a 4.47-second time in the 40-yard dash and showed a high compete level in 1-on-1's.

"I've been training a lot with my trainer Derick Alexander," Forrest said after the camp. "I've been doing a lot of explosion drills, trying to get a good start (on the 40) so I'm happy with my time. I want to keep getting better though, you have to be fast to play corner."

The interest from Big Ten and MAC programs has started to roll in for Forrest who is in search of his first offer.

"I'm hearing from Miami of Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue has been sending me a lot of letters, and a couple other MAC schools, Toledo," he said.

Being from Columbus, it's no surprise that Ohio State is a program that Forrest grew up following and he's hoping to catch the eye of the Buckeyes' staff at some point. Ohio State just recently signed his teammate, Malik Harrison.

"I'd love to hear from Ohio State," he said. "Malik is a great teammate. He's a good role model, he gets good grades, and he encourages us."

GIVLER'S TAKE:

Forrest is one of the more intriguing unoffered prospects in Ohio right now because of his size, athleticism, and physical nature. A lot of defensive coaches are moving more towards having essentially three corners on the field to counter these spread passing attacks and Forrest could be a fit at either corner or free safety in those defensive alignments.

Forrest missed about half of his junior season with an ankle injury but once he hits the college camp scene this summer, I expect him to land some offers.
