Jenkinson staying busy with recruitment

If you're not familiar with the name Bryce Jenkinson yet, you soon will be. The 2015 inside linebacker prospect from Greenville (Ohio) has earned plenty of attention from college coaches and recruiters after a strong start to the camp tour making an appearance at the Rivals Camp Series top in Dublin (Ohio) coupled with a strong junior season at Greenville high school.

The 6-foot-1, 224-pound linebacker already holds offers from Toledo, Kent State, Ball State, Miami (Ohio) and recently picked one up from Yale. Several other schools are starting to take notice and have been reaching out to Jenkinson.

"I've been receiving really strong interest from Ohio University, Cincinnati, and Michigan State recently," Jenkinson said.

Jenkinson spoke with the Cincinnati coaching staff on Thursday night and had a positive call as the Bearcats are looking to get him on campus for a visit.

"The call went great," Jenkinson added. "They are super excited. I'll be going down to campus the first week of June for a visit."

Out of any of the teams that are in on Jenkinson, does any one team hold an edge at this point of the process?

"Toledo is the coaching staff that I have the best relationship with right now," said Jenkinson. "I would definitely say that Toledo is the top school out of my offers."

2013 was a strong showing by Jenkinson on the field and he finished the season with 133 tackles (43 solo, 90 assisted) in a 10 game season. Add to those totals a pair of quarterback sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery and it is easy to see why teams are impressed when they pop in Jenkinson's tape.

Jenkinson plans to hit the road and work the camp circuit this summer and in addition to his visit to Cincinnati also has plans to hit the Nike camp in Columbus (Ohio) in June as well as a stop at Michigan State's team camp and the potential of a visit to the Ohio State team camp.

With the increased interest from more schools, has this had any effect on when Jenkinson would like to make a decision?

"At first I had planned on committing right before my senior season began," Jenkinson explained. "However, if things go well, I could commit sooner, maybe as early as sometime this summer."

As a young man with a lot of options for where he will play his college football, it can often be tough to narrow down schools that interest you or to decide where you want to go. What does the linebacker look at to determine the right fit for him?

"Great academics. Academics are definitely at the top of my list for choosing where I want to go," Jenkinson added. "I also want to make sure I go somewhere with a great football program and find a staff and team that show great leadership qualities."
